Published in Tallahassee Democrat on June 20, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Earl Kimball Herold's heart stopped at his home in Miccosukee, Florida surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 18, 2018. He was 87 years old. He was born February 24, 1931 to Joseph Victor Herold, Sr. and Pauline Haynes Herold in Thomasville, Georgia at Archbold Memorial Hospital. He was the third child and the first to be born in a hospital. He was raised on his family farm in Miccosukee with his four brothers, Joseph Victor Jr, Haynes, Fred, and Don who all preceded him in death.

He received his elementary education at the Miccosukee School where his mother was a teacher. Earl graduated from Leon High School in 1949 and attended Florida State University where he lettered in baseball and was a member of the Varsity Club.

In 1952, he moved to North Augusta, South Carolina to begin working for the Dupont Atomic Energy Plant. In 1953 he met the love of his life, Evie Lou McCoy whom he married. They had three children, Stan, Joe and Kim. He enlisted in the Army National Guard on May 29, 1956 and was honorably discharged on August 11, 1959 at the rank of Sgt First Class. They later moved to Blakely, Georgia where he worked for the Great Northern Paper Plant in Cedar Springs, Georgia. In 1971, they moved to Miccosukee and he worked for Olin, St Marks, Florida, where he retired after 20 years as an electrical Supervisor.

Earl was a devoted husband and father and absolutely loved his family. They always came first and he would do anything for any of them at a moment's notice. He is survived by two children, Stanley Earl (Carole) Herold and Kim (Brian) Bibeau who both live in Miccosukee; eight grandchildren whom he adored: Gregory Earl (Angela) Herold of Chattanooga, TN; Jamie Lynn (Gordon) DeVoss of Tallahassee; Sarah Kimball (Ian) Wilson of New Orleans, LA; Amy Bragg of Ashville, NC; Victoria (Alex) Green of Destin, FL; Joseph V. Herold, IV of Willacoochee, GA; McCoy (Shannon) Herold of Des Moines, Iowa; Callie Herold of Tallahassee; and two great-grandchildren, Greyson Gregory Herold of Chattanooga, TN and Haynes Herold DeVoss of Tallahassee.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years of marriage, Evie Lou McCoy Herold and their son Joseph Victor Herold, III.

Earl always had a smile on his face that would make his eyes light up and was ready to strike up a conversation with anyone. His hobbies included farming, fishing, and hunting ducks, deer, dove and quail. He loved anything sports, especially involving FSU teams.
