Charles Earl McPherson Obituary. Published in The Newnan Times on Oct 31, 2015. Mr. Charles "Charlie" Earl McPherson Jr, 83, of Newnan, GA, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015, at his home - Bridlewood Farm. He was born on May 27, 1932, in Birmingham, AL, to the late Charles Earl McPherson Sr. & Pearl Reynolds McPherson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth "Betty" DeWitt of Newnan, GA. Charlie grew up in Jacksonville, FL, and was a 1950 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. Upon graduation he attended the Florida State University and played center for the Seminoles. At FSU, Charlie was also a proud member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. In 1952, he joined the United States Naval Cadet Program in Pensacola, FL, and upon graduation entered the United States Marine Corps as a Marine pilot. After serving the USMC for several years based in Cherry Point, NC, in El Toro, CA, and in Atsugi, JP, he retired as a captain from the military and went to begin a career with Eastern Airlines. Charlie worked as an airline captain with Eastern for over 30 years and retired in 1989 on the L1011. Charlie's accomplishments include: an awarded Eagle Scout; a championship high school football player; played in the Cigar Bowl with the Florida State Seminoles; Captain of the first trans Pacific flight on a Lockheed GV-1 Hercules; raised world champion Morgan Horses at his farm, Bridlewood; was president of the American Morgan Horse Association. wife Dawn of Apex, NC, Jamie Elliott McPherson and spouse Tra Raines of
