Donald Paul Linton Obituary. Published in the South Florida Sun Sentinel, Orlando, Fla. on Feb 24, 2007, page 39. Donald (Don) Paul
Linton, 78 passed away Tuesday, February 20th, 2007, surrounded by his
loving family at Select Specialty Hospital in Orlando, Florida. He is
survived by his wife of 53 years, Catherine (Kitty) Linton, son Don Linton
and his wife Barbara and their children Megan Willis and Scott Willis;
daughter Catherine Katz and her husband Sherman and their children Sydney
Katz and Leigh Katz; son John Linton and his wife Cindy and their children
Paul Linton and Carl Linton; son Paul Linton and his wife Cathy and their
son John Austin Linton. Don was a fifth generation Floridian born in
Wewahitchka, Florida. He attended University of Georgia for one year
(1946-47), and then served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1950. On his
return from service he attended Florida State University, where he met his
wife Kitty, and was a member of the first undefeated and untied football
team. He earned his B.S. from FSU in 1953, and began his 30-year career in
education teaching science and coaching football in Bradenton, Florida
before settling in Ft. Lauderdale. There he advanced into school
administration as principal of Driftwood Junior High, and then of Cooper
City High School, where he completed his career retiring in 1985. Don was
always deeply committed to the success of his schools and students and
touched many lives during those years. Don loved sports and found time
during his career to coach football, basketball and baseball. He also
served as an official for football and many other sports. Don firmly
believed that sports provided opportunities and built good character in
student athletes. As an administrator he strongly supported both men's and
women's sport teams. Don found time to continue his own education,
obtaining a Masters degree from Barry University. He was deeply committed
to public education and continued to support the school system after
retirement. From 1985 to 1995 he served as executive secre3tary for
Principals, Assistant Principals and County Administrators organization.
Don and Kitty retired to Lake Placid in 1995 where Don was involved in the
Rotary Club, Highland County Lakes as Assistant President, and Friends of
Istokpoga as director, Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce, Highland County
Retired Educator's Association, Highland County Education Foundation,
member of Water Advisory Committee and member of Sewage Study Committee.
Don will always be remembered by those who knew him professionally and
personally as a man of great compassion and integrity. He was a gifted
administrator and family man who led by example. His wishes were for his
family to hold a small private ceremony to honor his life. |
