Troy Parnell, 87, died peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2011, his gamily by his side.

Troy was born on March 24, 1924 in Pelham, Georgia to the late Tucker and Aldie Parnell.

The family moved to Tifton, Georgia where he lived most of his life until entering the service.

During his high school football years, Troy acquired the name "Trigger," which stayed with him for the rest of his life.

Troy served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II in the European theater.

After discharge, he attended Florida State University, and upon graduation from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, he coached high school football in Apopka.

Troy came to Fort Myers in 1952 to begin coaching at Fort Myers High School.

In 1960 he entered the real estate profession and brokered countless land transactions in Lee and neighboring counties. He led a group of partners in transforming Palm Island in Charlotte County from a remote, isolated gulf front island into a coveted residential and destination area on southwest Florida's Gulf Coast.

Troy enjoyed the outdoor life. His hobbies included fishing, boating, golf and attending professional and college football games, as well as PGA golf tournaments.

He is survived by his wife and best friend Kathleen "Anne," his children Clay (Kristen) Parnell, Jeff (Lisa) Parnell, Sandra (Jim) Johnson, Genie (Hugh) White, grandchildren Jackson Parnell, Gabe Parnell, Cole Parnell, Will Parnell, Connor Parnell, Blake Parnell, Dawn Geraci, Scott Johnson, Leslie Montero as well as great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
