Nicholas Kent Strauss died September 5, 2014, at Big Bend Hospice House. A Tallahassee native, Kent was born on August 9, 1928, to Alex Strauss and June (Beroud) Strauss. He is predeceased by his sons Robert Henry Strauss and Louis Charles Strauss, his brother, Theodore (Buddy) Strauss, and sisters Doris Mruz and Marguerite Cureton. He is survived by his wife, Bess Strauss, daughter, Susan (Dale) Thompson, son, Kent (Susan) Strauss, all of Tallahassee; his stepdaughter Sandy Hennessy (George Mays) and stepsons Michael (Susan) Miles, also of Tallahassee, and David (Marianne) Miles, Loxahatchee; thirteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren,

Kent attended Florida Military Academy and later graduated from Leon High School, where he was a cheerleader; he then attended Florida State University. His father was among the first immigrants in Tallahassee from the Greek island of Patmos, and Kent was proud of his Greek heritage. Early in his career he managed the data processing department for the Florida Hotel and Restaurant Commission, before becoming an entrepreneur and establishing his own business, Kent's Northside, in midtown. He owned and operated Kent's for 35 years, a popular place for several Tallahassee generations. Kent loved the woods and was an avid outsdoorsman, and he was happy to spend his retirement living peacefully on the Ochlocknee River.
