From the Tallahassee Democrat Obiturary for Jack Olin McMillan Sr. (1926 - 2010) Born in Chattahoochee, Fla., on Aug. 6, 1926 - Departed Oct. 12, 2010. Jack Olin McMillan, Sr., 84, of Quincy, FL, died October 12, 2010 in Thomasville, GA. Interment will be Friday, October 15, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. EDT at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy. The 11:00 a.m. memorial service will follow at Centenary United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. Jack was born August 6, 1926, in Chattahoochee, FL, grew up in Quincy and graduated from Gadsden High School where he was Valedictorian in 1944. He also graduated from FSU where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. In 1947 he was Co-Captain and quarterback of the first FSU football team where his brother, Charles, scored the first touchdown in Seminole history. Jack was a member of the St. Andrews Society, the Guy A. Race Scholarship Foundation, the FSU Letterman's Club, and President of the Quincy Quarterback Club. He served on the founding Board of Trustees of Tallahassee Community College. He was a lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a communicant and choir member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Quincy. Jack served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He spent the majority of his working career in the shade tobacco industry and was Vice President and General Manager of King Edward Tobacco Co. in Quincy for 27 years. He was also the Vice President and Manager of Florida Hybrid Seed Co. He retired from a second career with the State of Florida Department of Revenue in information systems. Jack was pre-deceased by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Penry Hill "Liz" McMillan; his parents, Samuel Jennings and Floy Pearl Bevis McMillan; his three brothers, Sam Bevis, Lonnie Charles, and William Norman McMillan. He is survived by children and spouses, Jack Olin, Jr. and Teresa McMillan of Atlanta, GA; Vic and Melissa McMillan of Thomasville, GA; Leila and Tony Martin of Duluth, GA; and Sam and Maria McMillan of Duluth, GA; grandchildren, Victor, Jr., Matthew, Thomas, Sammy and Nan McMillan; sisters-in-law, Robin Hill Murphy of Orlando, Mary Shaw McMillan of Quincy and Chris Young McMillan of Asheville, NC; stepmother, Mattie McMillan of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the TCC Foundation for the Guy A. Race Scholarship Fund, 444 Appleyard Dr, Tallahassee, FL 32304, or to a charity of choice.
