Lonnie Charles McMillan Obituary. Published by the Tallahassee Democrat on May 16, 2004, page 19. QUINCY - L. Charles McMillan, 76, a re4tired lieutenant colonel for the U.S. Air Force, died Thursday, May 13, 2004, in Asheville, N.C. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Chris McMillan of Asheville. Charles was born in 1928, the third of four sons, to Floy Bevis and Sam McMillan. e attended the University of Florida and graduated from Florida State University. Charles was a notable player on FSU's first football team and served as president of the student body. He completed a distinguished career in the Air Force as a pilot, earning the rank of lieutenant colonel. Subsequent to his military retirement in 1970, Charles and his wife were business partners in a ladies retail clothing store, etc. His loving acceptance of all who came into his presence will be missed. The many years of struggle with the limitations caused by Parkinson's disease never diminished his bright wit and sense of humor. Other survivors include a son, Col. Greg McMillan (and wife Kelly) of Qatar, Iraq; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Charlie, both of Qatar; his stepmother, Mattie McMillan of Quincy; a brother, Jack McMillan of Quincy; a loving family of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was
preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Sam McMillan and W.
