Obituary for James P. Love Published in the Tallahassee Democrat, December 9, 2007, page 23 James P. Love Jr., 80, who retired as a professor with the School of Social Work at Florida State University, died Thursday, December 6, 2007. Born December 25, 1926, in a house on the campus of Florida State College for Woman, which later became Florida State University, from where his father ran the FSCW dairy. He spent his childhood and adolescent years growing up in Tallahassee and graduated from Florida High in 1944. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army and served in post-war Germany as an MP. Upon returning he attended FSU where he received his bachelor's degree and was a player on the first Florida State football team in 1947. In the fall of 1948, he met his future wife, Laura Jane Blue, at a Sigma Kappa sorority social that his fraternity was sponsoring. J.P. and Jane were married August 3, 1950, at First Presbyterian Church in St. Petersburg. After receiving his BA, he worked as a teacher and with juvenile facilities all over Florida. He then returned to Tallahassee and FSU where he completed his master's and Ph.D., before joining the faculty at Florida State. He retired from FSU in 1990 after more than thirty years of service. He and his wife then spent their retirement years enjoying spending time with their children and grandchildren, traveling and spending time at their house in Bryson City, N.C. He is survived by his children, James P. Love III (and wife Rita) of Havana, and Laura Love Andrews (and husband Tom) and Joy Love Hester, both of Tallahassee; and three grandchildren, Shanna Lee Andrews, Aren Elizabeth Andrews and Austin Buckner Hester, all of Tallahassee. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Jane Blue Love, who passed away January 4, 2006.
