Longtime Auburn faculty member Taylor Littleton
passed away on March 25.
After serving in the Korean War and completing
his doctorate at Florida State University, Littleton joined the Auburn
faculty in 1957. In addition to teaching, he served in many administrative
positions during his 40 years at Auburn, including chair of the Department
of English, dean of undergraduate studies and vice president of academic
affairs. He also was named the W. Kelly Mosley Professor of Science and
Humanities and was co-founder of the Littleton-Franklin lecture series.
Following his retirement from university service, Littleton was active in
the organization and administration of the Jule Collins Smith Museum of
Fine Art, serving as the first president of its advisory board. He also was
one of the first retirees to offer courses in what is now the Osher
Lifelong Learning Institute, or OLLI, program, teaching regularly for more
than 10 years on literary topics, especially Shakespeare and epic
poetry.
