Ben McCrary Obituary. Published by the News-Press, Fort Myers, Fla. on May 25, 2009, page 10. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, called Dr. Ben McCrary, 85, home on Friday, May 22, 2009. Ben was born on November 28, 1923, in Graceville, Florida to the parents of Robert Lee and Clyde Yates McCrary. He grew up in Chipley, Florida attending Chipley High School. In 1943 he entered into WWII serving the United States Army as a military policeman in Central Europe. During his years in the in the military, Ben, received several military medals. After leaving the military he attended and graduated from Florida State University. He was a member of FSU's first men's basketball team. After graduation from FSU he attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia receiving his Doctorate in Dental Science. While attending school in Atlanta he met and married the love of his life, Mary Ann Hopper. After graduation in 1954, he moved to Marianna, Florida and started his dental practice. Ben was an avid golfer and played in many amateur tournaments around the area. After the passing of his wife Ben moved to Bonita Springs, Florida to be close to his daughter and son.
Ben is survived by his loving daughter, Lynn Cartwright (Paul) of Bonita
Springs, FL, granddaughter Sarah Chestnut (Jon), great grandchildren, Emily
and Paul Chestnut of Lehigh Acres, FL, granddaughter Catherine Tumleson
(Jerrod) and great granddaughter, Maci Tumbleson of Bonita Springs, FL and
was predeceased by his wife Mary Ann and son Rick McCrary. |
