December 1, 2023

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State women's soccer team's record season continued on Friday afternoon as a school record and NCAA-leading five players were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America Teams. Onyi Echegini and Jordynn Dudley picked up first team honors while Taylor Huff and Jody Brown were named to the second team. Cristina Roque was named to the third team for the second consecutive season.

Echegini and Dudley each picked up their first All-America honor of their career and have proven to be one of the most dangerous scoring duos in the country. They have combined for 27 goals this season, 15 from Echegini and 12 from Dudley, and were the first Florida State duo to each have 10 or more goals in a season since 2018. Echegini was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and Dudley was named the ACC Freshman of the Year. Both athletes were named Semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Award and both were First Team All-ACC honorees.

Brown and Huff are All-Americans for the second year in a row after both posting solid seasons for the Seminoles. Huff leads the team with 13 assists this season which is tied for the third-most assists in a single season in school history. Huff has also added seven goals for FSU and has been FSU's go-to person on corner kicks and set pieces.

Brown has once again been one of the more dangerous players in the country when she has the ball. While also juggling international duty, Brown tallied five goals and five assists in 18 games this season as she transitioned into her midfielder role for the Seminoles.

Roque has been terrific in the goal for FSU once again and has etched her name into the Florida State record books. Starting all 21 games for FSU, Roque has allowed just 13 goals for a 0.62 GAA while also recording 13 shutouts this season which is the third most in FSU history. Roque also became FSU's record holder for career shutouts in the NCAA Tournament with 15 and is just two wins away from being FSU's record holder for career wins in the NCAA Tournament.

2023 Women's Dl Postseason Awards.

by TopDrawerSoccer

A record-breaking women's soccer season ended last week as Florida State became the fourth 21st-century team to pull off an undefeated season.

That also means TopDrawerSoccer releases its yearly awards with several factors coming into play, from conference awards to individual accomplishments and team success. It covers the duration of the season, from the first weekend until the national championship for the 2023 season.

The Player of the Year is Lexi Missimo of Texas, who had a breathtaking season of 26 goals and 20 assists in 24 appearances, adding up to 72 points, which led the nation and is the 15th most in NCAA history. Most importantly, those numbers contributed to team success, as the Longhorns won the Big-12 tournament for the third time in program history, were one win shy of the program record of 18, and reached the Round of 16 before losing to the eventual champions. The other stars in consideration were Brecken Mozingo, who did it all for the BYU offense; Eleanor Dale, who led the country with a jaw-dropping 28 goals; and Onyi Echegini, who led Florida State in goals and points.

Speaking of the Seminoles, the Freshman of the Year was undoubtedly Jordynn Dudley. In the most impressive debut season since Catarina Macario in 2017, the Forward scored 14 and assisted 9 to tie for the Florida State lead in points as the ACC side reeled off a dominant 22-0-1 record. From start to finish, the Georgia native was a marvel as she ended her campaign with a goal and assist in the national final. Others in the running were Samantha Courtwright of Texas Tech, a midfielder who was a first-team selection in the loaded Big-12; Savannah King, who seamlessly slid into the North Carolina back line; and Danielle Davis, as she led semi-finalist Clemson in minutes and provided several key assists.

Brian Pensky rounds out the major individual awards as Coach of the Year after guiding Florida State to a historically dominant season where the Seminoles finished unbeaten through 23 games and won every trophy available, scoring 75 goals and conceding 14 in a magical run.

Echegini Wins Honda Sports Award for Women's Soccer.

December 22, 2023

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State women's soccer's star forward Onyi Echegini picked up one of the top awards in women's soccer on Friday morning as she was named the Honda Sport Award winner for women's soccer. Echegini is just the third Seminole to win the award, joining Natalia Kuikka (2018) and Jaelin Howell (2021).

"It is truly an honor to receive this award. To be mentioned among some of the greatest college soccer players in sports history is something I'll never take for granted. I wouldn't have been able to do this without my coaches, teammates, family and friends who have supported me throughout this journey," Echegini said.

The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 48 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies "the best of the best in collegiate athletics". The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2024 Honda Cup, which will be presented on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 7 PM ET, from its new home in New York City.

Echegini was chosen by a vote of administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Finalists included Jasmine Aikey (Stanford), Hannah Anderson (Texas Tech) and Brecken Mozingo (BYU).

The senior from London, England, had another spectacular season for the season as she posted a career-high and ACC-leading 16 goals for the 2023 National Champions. Her 16 goals were tied for the eighth-most in school history and the most goals since Deyna Castellanos in 2017. Echegini was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and was the ACC Tournament MVP. Echegini is also in the running for the MAC Hermann trophy which will be announced on Jan. 5.

Echegini Wins MAC Hermann Trophy.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - For the third time in the past four years, women's college soccer's most prestigious individual award will make its home in Tallahassee as Florida State forward Onyi Echegini was named the MAC Hermann Trophy winner on Friday night solidifying her title as the best player in college soccer. Friday was the fourth time a Seminole has brought home the pristine trophy as Echegini joins Mami Yamaguchi who won the award in 2007 and Jaelin Howell who won the award in 2020 and 2021. FSU has now won the third-most MAC Hermann Trophies behind North Carolina and Stanford.

Echegini dominated every time she took the pitch this past season as the senior from London, England, made the most of her time in the Garnet and Gold. Echegini became the first Seminole to win ACC Offensive Player of the Year since Deyna Castellanos in 2019. Echegini did not stop there as she was named the ACC Tournament MVP after scoring two goals in the ACC Championship Game against Clemson to secure FSU's fourth consecutive ACC Championship. Echegini continued her dominance in the NCAA Tournament scoring three goals including a goal and an assist to help the Seminoles to its fourth National Championship.

In 21 games, Echegini scored 16 goals while adding five assists. Echegini's 16 goals led the ACC and was ranked fifth in the country and was the most goals scored by a Seminole since Castellanos in 2017. Echegini has had an amazing year in the international world of soccer as well. Echegini spent her summer with the Nigerian National Team where she helped them reach the Round of 16 in the 2023 FIFA World Cup. Just yesterday, Echegini signed her professional contract with the Juventus Women in Italy.

In just two seasons with FSU, Echegini scored 26 goals which is the 11th-most in school history. She helped lead the Seminoles to the 2023 National Championship, two ACC Championships and two College Cups.

Taylor Huff's Late Goal Leads No. 6 FSU Past Texas A&M.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - In her debut in the Garnet and Gold, Taylor Huff made her name known as her goal in the 86th minute lifted the No. 6 Florida State women's soccer team (1-0-0) past Texas A&M (0-1-0) by a score of 2-1 on a scorching hot night at Ellis Field in College Station, Texas.

The win kept an impressive streak alive for the Seminoles as they are now unbeaten in their last 16 non-conference games holding a record of 14-0-2 dating back to Sept. 1, 2019. The Seminoles have also not been beaten in their last 16 season openers.

After a couple of close chances early on, Beata Olsson converted in the 24th minute on a deep ball that ricocheted off an Aggie defender and went just over the reach of the goalkeeper to give the Noles' their first goal of the season. It was Olsson's 28th career goal for the Garnet and Gold.

The Aggies responded in the 40th minute off a header to tie the game after the first 45 minutes.

Each team continued to get their chances in the second half. The Seminoles threatened in the 53rd minute as Olivia Garcia's header wasn't able to squeak by the goalkeeper. FSU threatened again as Onyi Echegini weaved in and out of traffic, but her shot hit off the top crossbar.

As time began to wind down, the Noles got one final chance and made the most of it. Ran Iwai sent a beautiful ball just out in front of Huff leaving her with a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper, and Huff converted to silence the home crown and give the Noles the lead with less than four minutes remaining. The Aggies would not threaten again giving FSU the victory.

The Noles had a slight advantage in shots (11-10) and shots-on-goal (5-4). Cristina Roque picked up her first win of the season after recording three saves. Huff led the way with four shots for the Noles.

Big Second Half Leads No. 6 FSU Past No. 9 TCU.

FORT WORTH, Texas - Two goals in the span of two minutes and 20 seconds led the No. 6 Florida State women's soccer team (2-0-0) to a 2-0 victory over No. 9 TCU (1-1-0) in a top 10 matchup Sunday night at Garvey Rosenthal Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. The Seminoles now hold an unbeaten streak of 17-straight non-conference games dating back to Sept. 1, 2019. The Seminoles also improved to 12-3-5 against top 10 opponents since the 2020 season.

A very physical first half did not allow either team to get into a rhythm as each team only attempted four shots each with only one of those being on target for each team. A total of 16 fouls were called in the first half as well as two yellow cards. The Seminoles got a couple of good looks from Beata Olsson and Amelia Van Zanten but nothing found the back of the net. The Seminoles controlled possession throughout the half and used a strong defensive effort to keep the Horned Frogs off-balanced leading to a 0-0 draw at the end of the first.

FSU turned up the aggression in the second half getting a quick shot from Jordynn Dudley in the 53rd minute that went just wide. In the 70th minute, Taylor Huff dribbled through the defense and took a shot from just beyond 25 yards and put it in the back of the net to break the tie. This was Huff's second goal in as many games and is the fourth time in her career that Huff has recorded a goal in back-to-back games.

In just under two and a half minutes later, Lily Farkas sent a ball to Jody Brown who streaked down the far sideline and delivered a perfect ball into the box for Onyi Echegini who easily converted for her first goal of the season to extend the Noles' lead to 2-0.

FSU's defense continued to suffocate the Horned Frogs as they allowed just two shots in the final 25 minutes to close out their Texas road trip with another win.

In the end, TCU held a slight shot advantage (9-8) but the Seminoles recorded three shots on goal compared to the Horned Frogs' one.

Sunday marked Head Coach Brian Pensky's eighth-ranked win in just 25 games as the Seminoles' head coach.

Four Noles Score in No. 2 FSU's 5-1 Win Over USF.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Four different Seminoles combined for five goals as the No. 2 Florida State soccer team (3-0-0) ran away from USF (2-3-0) in a 5-1 win in the home opener on Sunday afternoon at the Seminole Soccer Complex. The Noles are now unbeaten in their last 20 home openers and have won 12 consecutive matches against teams in the state of Florida.

It was the Jordynn Dudley show in the first 55 minutes as the true freshman scored her first career goal in the eighth minute to give the Noles a 1-0 lead. Dudley intercepted the ball on USF's side of the field and dribbled all the way down, beating her defender and leaving herself with a one-on-one chance with the goalie, and she converted to give the Noles the lead. The Noles dominated possession for the entirety of the match and held a 9-1 shots advantage to take a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Dudley got the scoring going in the second half in the 53rd minute as she intercepted another pass and took a shot just beyond the box that bounced off the goalkeeper's hands and in. Dudley became the first freshman to record a multi-goal game since Jody Brown in 2020 against Clemson.

The Seminoles continued to apply pressure as they took advantage of a corner kick where Taylor Huff played a perfect ball to Onyi Echegini who converted for her second goal of the season to extend the lead to 3-0 in the 59th minute. Olivia Garcia was fouled inside of the box and converted on her penalty kick to give her a goal on her birthday in the 69th minute. The Bulls responded with a goal of their own in the 82nd minute, but Leah Pais scored her first goal as a Seminole on a penalty kick in the 83rd minute.

The Seminoles were dominant as they held a 26-2 shot advantage over the Bulls. 18 different Seminoles saw action today and 13 of them recorded a shot. Cristina Roque picked up her third win of the season as she played all 90 minutes in the goal for the Noles.

Brown and Echegini Power Noles Past UNF.

By Jack Oliaro

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jody Brown and Onyi Echegini each fired two goals as the fifth-ranked Florida State soccer team (4-0-0) blitzed North Florida (1-3-2) in a 4-0 victory on Thursday evening at Hodges Stadium. The Noles haven't lost a non-conference road match since 2019.

Brown wasted no time as she drove into the box and passed off to Taylor Huff who then sent it back through to Brown for a one-on-one with the keeper which she made no mistake of. Curled beautifully into the back of the net leaving the flailing keeper with no chance to put the Noles on the board inside of ten minutes. Huff provided three assists on the night for the first time in her career and leads the team in assists at five.

Good things are bound to happen when you send a ball into the danger area, and Beata Olsson did just that as her through ball made a deflection and allowed an easy path to Echegini for her to smash in the insurance goal. No more than ten minutes passed before Jordynn Dudley received the ball from Echegini and sped past Osprey defenders to set Brown up for a 3-0 lead and her first brace of the season.

The scoring didn't stop there as Huff sent in a whipping cross to Dudley who laid a header down to Echegini which she powered through two defenders and into the top of the net for the finishing touches and a brace for herself as well. Last year's leading goal scorer already has four goals in four matches and holds this year's honor through the early season. She also has scored in her last three games marking just the second time in her FSU career she's achieved the feat.

The Seminoles were once again dominant with a 17-2 shot advantage, held nearly 70% of possession, and converted over half of the shots they fired at goal. The returning World Cup players, Brown, Echegini, and Maria Alagoa each recorded two shots on goal. Cristina Roque earned her fourth win of the season and second clean sheet on the road.

Seminoles Host Rival Florida on Sunday Afternoon.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Beata Olsson played a perfect ball for Jody Brown in the 76th minute, and Brown found the back of the net to give the No. 5 Florida State women's soccer team (5-0-0) a 1-0 victory over rival Florida (4-1-2) on Sunday afternoon at the Seminole Soccer Complex. This is the Seminoles' sixth consecutive win over the Gators which is the longest streak by either team in the series. This was also the Seminoles' 21st consecutive regular-season win over a non-conference opponent.

Once again, the Seminoles came out and controlled the possession and the pace of the game. The Seminoles held possession for 57% of the time in the first half and tallied six shots and four corner kicks in the first half. The Noles' best look came in the 10th minute off their first corner kick of the game as Taylor Huff sent a ball into Jordynn Dudley who headed it just off the top crossbar.

The Noles continued to put pressure on the Gators in the second half tallying seven corner kicks in the first 20 minutes of the second frame but were unable to convert. The Noles finally broke through in the 76th minute. Onyi Echegini won a Florida goal kick at midfield and headed it to Dudley. Dudley dished it off to Brown, who sent it to Olsson who gave it right back to Brown. Brown took a few dribbles to beat her defender and sent a bullet into the net to give the Noles the advantage. The Gators did not record another shot in the final 15 minutes as the Seminoles kept their undefeated record alive.

The Seminoles' defense shined once again as they have now held their last three opponents to under five shots each. Florida recorded just three shots with none of them being on target. This is also the Seminoles' second consecutive shutout and their third shutout in five games. Cristina Roque earned her fifth victory of the season inside the goal.

No. 4 FSU Scores Four Unanswered Goals to Take Down No. 8 Clemson.

CLEMSON, S.C. - The No. 4 Florida State women's soccer team (6-0-0) scored four unanswered goals to take down No. 8 Clemson (6-1-2) by a score of 4-2 on Friday afternoon at Riggs Field. It is the Seminoles' second road victory over a top 10 team and is the fifth straight season the Seminoles have opened ACC play with a victory.

After Clemson scored goals in 6th and 19th minutes, the Seminoles continued to apply pressure and finally found the back of the net as Ran Iwai sent a ball into the box, and Jordynn Dudley was able to corral and keep her composure in traffic to find the back of the net in the 26th minute. The Seminoles struck again in the 44th minute as Lily Farkas sent a perfect ball to Maria Alagoa who snuck behind the defense and converted for her first goal of the season to tie the game at halftime.

FSU dominated the second half allowing just four shots in the second frame and continued to control possession on the offensive end. Beata Olsson found the back of the net off a ball that ricocheted off a defender leaving Olsson with a one-on-one opportunity to give the Noles the lead. Onyi Echegini added the dagger in the 81st minute as she was there for the rebound and converted for her team-high fifth goal of the season.

Friday was FSU's largest comeback win since Sept. 18, 2014, when the Seminoles came back from a 2-0 deficit against Connecticut.

FSU held a 17-10 shots advantage and a 6-5 corner kicks advantage. Cristina Roque tallied her sixth win of the season and tallied one save on the afternoon.

Echegini's Late Goal Leads Noles at Syracuse.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Onyi Echegini's late-game heroics lifted the No. 3 Florida State women's soccer team (7-0-0, 2-0) in a 3-2 win over Syracuse (2-7-1, 0-2) Thursday night at SU Soccer Stadium in Syracuse, N.Y.

The Orange were the first to score as they took advantage of a misplay by the goalie in the third minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Seminoles quickly responded in the seventh minute as Beata Olsson scored her third goal of the season off a great ball from Ran Iwaii.

The Seminoles surrendered an own goal with just 29 seconds left in the first half to take the lead.

The Seminoles tied the game back up in the 58th minute as Taylor Huff sent in a great corner kick that bounced off an Orange defender and into the net to tie the game at two.

The Seminoles continued to apply pressure on the offensive end recording eight shots on goal over the next 20 minutes. Echegini made some magic happen in the 84th minute as she dribbled through the defense and took a shot just inside the box, and it soared into the back right corner of the net to give the Noles the lead. It was Echegini's sixth goal of the season which leads the team.

The Seminoles were dominant on the offensive side of the ball as they tallied a season-high 32 shots including 19 of them being on goal. The Seminoles 19 shots on goal is the most since Sept. 11, 2022, when they recorded 20 shots on goal against Rice. The Seminoles' 10 second-half corner kicks also tied a school record for most corner kicks in a second half. FSU also forced 16 saves by the Syracuse goalkeeper which was the third-highest total in school history.

Van Zanten's Last-Second Goal Earns No. 3 FSU a Draw with No. 1 North Carolina.

By Jack Oliaro

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Mimi Van Zanten scored on the last kick of the game as the third-ranked Florida State soccer team (7-0-1) played first-ranked North Carolina (7-0-4) to a thrilling 3-3 draw on Sunday afternoon at Dorrance Field.

The two teams faced three times last season with UNC taking two of the three meetings but Florida State winning the ACC Championship for a third straight season. The two have been the standard in collegiate soccer and their annual matchup is always one of the biggest games of the year.

North Carolina began with the upper hand in the attack, registering several shots early in the game including a dangerous free kick which goalkeeper Cristina Roque handled well. Leilanni Nesbeth had no goal contributions up to this point in the season but came up huge as she stole possession off the Tar Heels, sprinted through the midfield, and laid in a well-timed through ball to Jordynn Dudley. The freshman drove into the center of the box and unleashed a shot to the near post to give the Seminoles the early lead against the run of play.

FSU nearly doubled their lead after Taylor Huff's whipping free kick was fired just over the crossbar. North Carolina was given a chance to tie the game with a penalty shot, but Maycee Bell skied the ball over the frame and left a goal on the table. They didn't have to wait long to try again as Ally Sentnor equalized just before halftime to go into the break at one apiece.

The Tar Heels were creating the better chances coming out of the break as they forced Roque into another quality save early on. Florida State was able to pull ahead off a corner kick as Huff's cross was met by the high-flying freshman Dudley who buried the ball into the net and regained the lead with 30 minutes to go. She secured her second collegiate brace in only her eighth career game.

With fifteen minutes to go North Carolina drew the game at 2-2 off a deflected ball before a cross to Kate Faasse allowed her to slot another goal away and UNC had their first lead of the day with five minutes to go. Florida State went into full attack and with ten seconds to go Huff's corner kick was parried by the UNC keeper and fell to freshman Mimi Van Zanten who launched the ball into the back of the net to level the game at 3-3 with two seconds remaining, her first collegiate goal.

No. 2 Soccer Fights Past Miami to Remain Unbeaten.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Freshman phenom Jordynn Dudley continued her hot streak on Friday night as her goals in the 60th minute and the 87th minute led the No. 2 Florida State women's soccer team (8-0-1, 3-0-1) to a 2-0 win over Miami (3-5-3, 2-2-0) in front of a near capacity crowd at the Seminole Soccer Complex. This is the Seminoles' fourth straight win over the Hurricanes and their 13th win over a team from the state of Florida.

The first half did not see much action for either team as the Seminoles took all six shots between the two teams in the first half. FSU's best look came in the 19th and 21st minute as Leilanni Nesbeth and Dudley each recorded a shot on goal. The Seminoles weren't able to get anything going in the final 25 minutes of the first half recording just three shots in the latter part of the half. The Seminoles still held a 6-0 shots advantage and a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks at the midway point.

The Noles came out in the second half with a sense of urgency and quickly threatened as Dudley took a shot that hit off the left post, and Nesbeth once again had a great look in the 57th minute. It did not take long for the Seminoles to convert as Dudley dribbled down the right sideline and beat her defender to find the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season.

The Seminoles continued to keep possession and did not allow the Hurricanes any chances to tie the game. FSU held possession 78% of the time and did not allow a single shot on the defensive end. This is the first time since Sept. 8, 2019, and just the eighth time in school history that the Seminoles have not allowed a shot.

Dudley put the icing on the cake with another goal in the 87th minute for her second consecutive brace and her team-high seventh goal of the season. Dudley is now tied for first in the ACC with seven goals this season.

Two Second Half Goals Lead No. 2 Soccer to a Win at Louisville.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Two goals in the second half led the No. 2 Florida State women's soccer team (9-0-1, 4-0-1) to a 2-0 win over Louisville (2-7-4, 1-3-1) on a rainy night at Lynn Stadium in Louisville, Ky. The Noles have never lost to the Cardinals and have not lost in their last eight road matches which is the fourth-longest streak in school history.

The Noles got some good looks early on in the match as Jordynn Dudley and Beata Olsson each recorded a shot in the first five minutes of the match. Dudley had the Noles best look of the half in the 24th minute, but the goalkeeper made the key save to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime. FSU held a 6-2 shot advantage at the half while also taking six corner kicks.

FSU continued to control the possession to begin the second half and continued to put pressure on the Cardinals. Taylor Huff took a shot from just beyond the box that deflected off the goalkeeper and found the back of the net to give the Noles the lead. Mimi Van Zanten earned the assist on the goal, her second of the season.

The Noles put the icing on the cake in the 77th minute as Ran Iwai got the rally started with a perfect pass to Kaitlyn Zipay who sent a beautiful ball to Maria Alagoa who converted for her second goal of the season. It was Zipay's first assist of the season and just the third of her career.

FSU was able to put the game away with more ball control and did not allow the Cardinals to threaten in any way. FSU outshot the Cardinals 10-3 and did not allow Louisville to get a shot off in the final 30 minutes of the match.

Cristina Roque made one save of the night and picked up her ninth win of the season in the goal.

Five Noles Score in 6-0 Win Over Boston College.

By Edward Klinsport

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 2 Florida State women's soccer team (10-0-1,5-0-1) dominated in a 6-0 win over Boston College (3-9-2, 0-6-0) on Sunday afternoon in front of a near capacity crowd at Seminole Soccer Complex. This marks the Seminole's fourth straight win over the Eagles, and FSU has outscored the Eagles 16-1 in the last three meetings.

The Seminoles came into the second half swinging as Dudley took a shot that hit off the top post and Beata Olsson had a great look just five minutes into the half. It did not take long for the Seminoles to convert as Leilanni Nesbeth scored via a pass by Dudley which was followed by a goal from Taylor Huff assisted by Olsson, both coming ten minutes after the break.

The Seminoles continued the pressure and did not allow the Eagles any chances to make a comeback. FSU dominated in both the shooting game and possession, outshooting Boston College 24-4 with 17 of the Seminole's shots coming in the second and holding possession of the ball for 66% of the game.

Peyton Nourse closed the game out with her first career goal in the 77th minute, which was immediately followed by her scoring again in the 79th minute. This win continues the Seminoles' undefeated streak at home against Boston College.

No. 1 Soccer Blasts No. 11 Notre Dame, 4-1.

By Edward Klinsport

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 1 Florida State women's soccer team (11-0-1, 6-0-1) won 4-1 against No. 11 Notre Dame (9-2-3, 5-1-1) Thursday evening to secure the top spot in the ACC standings in front of a near capacity crowd at the Seminole Soccer Complex. The Seminoles now sit alone at the top of the ACC Standings with 19 points followed by Notre Dame with 16 points and North Carolina with 14 points. FSU also improved 28-0-0 at home when they are ranked No. 1.

The Seminoles struck early in the first half as Jordynn Dudley dribbled through defenders and put a ball in the box for Onyi Echegini who squeaked it by the Fighting Irish defensive to give the Noles the lead. Notre Dame struck back later in the first half at the 28th minute of play to even the score. Echegini struck again right before halftime as she received a ball from Leah Pais, made the turn just inside the box and fired a ball that ricocheted off the goalie and into the back of the net. This was Echegini's second brace of the season and she is now tied for the team high in goals.

The second half started slow, but the Seminoles continued to control possession to put pressure on the Fighting Irish. FSU finally broke through in the 68th minute as Kaitlyn Zipay sent a perfect ball into Jody Brown in the 68th minute. Brown just got enough of her leg on it to squeak it past the goalie to give the Noles the two-goal lead. Leilanni Nesbeth put the icing on the cake in the 77th minute as she took a shot from way beyond the box to put the game away.

Cristina Roque earned another win for the Seminoles in the goal while making a season-high four saves, all of which came in the first half.

No. 1 Soccer Scores Three Goals in the Second Half to Defeat No. 18 Pitt.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 1 Florida State women's soccer team (12-0-1, 7-0-1) won 3-2 against Pitt (12-3-1, 5-2-1) Thursday evening to stay undefeated and hold on to the top spot in the ACC standings. FSU remained unbeaten against the Panthers winning all 12 meetings. FSU also improved to 29-0-0 at home when they are ranked No. 1.

A very intense and physical first half did not allow either team to get into a full rhythm, but Onyi Echegini got the best look of the half in the 23rd minute that hit off the top of the crossbar leaving the Noles scoreless. The Panthers struck just before halftime off a free kick leaving FSU trailing at the break for the first time this season.

The Seminoles continued to do what they have done all season, dominate teams in the second half. FSU got a good look from Echegini right out of the gate in the 48th minute. Pitt's defense settled in for the next 10 minutes, but the Seminole attack began to finally break through to create some chances for the top-ranked Seminoles. FSU finally converted in the 63rd minute as Taylor Huff sent the corner kick to the back post, and Lauren Flynn sent a beautiful header into the net for just her third career goal and her first goal of the season.

FSU kept the momentum as freshman phenom Jordynn Dudley scored her ninth goal of the season just nine minutes scoring in the 72nd minute of play. Dudley received a ball from Beata Olsson and beat her defender in the box and fired a shot into the back of the net. Just three minutes later, Echegini found the back of the net on her fourth shot of the night as Leah Pais got the rally going with a ball to Jody Brown who quickly sent it to Echegini for the goal.

The Panthers weren't done yet as they scored a goal in the 81st minute off a penalty kick, but the Seminoles were able to run the clock out to secure the 11th consecutive victory at the Seminole Soccer Complex.

Top-Ranked Seminoles Clinch a Share of ACC Regular Season Championship with 4-0 win over Duke.

DURHAM, N.C. - The No. 1 Florida State women's soccer team (13-0-1, 8-0-1) dominated from start to finish in a 4-0 win over Duke (6-6-3, 2-4-3) on Sunday afternoon at Koskinen Field in Durham, N.C. to clinch a share of their sixth ACC Regular Season Championship. This is the first time in school history that FSU has won back-to-back ACC Regular Season Championships.

Both teams got some great looks in the first half, but it was Florida State who converted in the 29th minute as Jordynn Dudley made a beautiful move to get past her defender and dished it off to a wide-open Kaitlyn Zipay who scored her second goal of the season tp put the Noles on the board.

As has been the theme of the season, FSU came out strong in the second half, and it took just eight minutes for FSU to get on the board as Beata Olsson sent a perfect ball to the back post, Onyi Ecehgini was there for the header for her 10th goal of the season to give FSU a 2-0 lead.

Just five minutes later, Echegini struck again as she received a ball from Taylor Huff, and Echegini fired a shot from just beyond the 18-yard box that found the top right corner of the net for her second brace in three games. Huff added one final goal in the 65th minute, but it was an important one as it broke the school record for most goals in ACC play throughout a 10-game schedule. FSU has now scored 31 goals in ACC play which broke the 2021 record of 30 goals in ACC play.

Cristina Roque was once again fantastic in the goal for the Seminoles as she recorded her seventh shutout. The win gave Roque 50 career wins in goal becoming just the third Seminole to eclipse the 50-win mark joining Kelsey Wys and Cassie Miller.

FSU finished 7-0-1 on the road this season with two wins over top 10 wins. This is the first time since 2014 and just the fourth time in school history that FSU has finished the regular season unbeaten on the road.

No. 1 Soccer Clinches Outright ACC Regular Season Championship; Flynn Records Hat Trick in 5-0 Win Over NC State.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 1 Florida State women's soccer team (14-0-1, 8-0-1) clinched the outright ACC Regular Season Championship and completed the first full undefeated regular season in school history in a 5-0 win over NC State (3-9-6, 2-4-3) Thursday evening on Senior Night.

Both teams got some great looks early in the first half, but it was Florida State who converted in the 43rd minute as Sophia Nguyen sent a ball into the box that bounced around and found the foot of Lauren Flynn who converted to give FSU the 1-0 lead into the half.

Much like every other game this season, FSU came out strong in the second half, as they took just three minutes to add to their lead with Flynn scoring her second goal of the game. Less than a minute later, Leilanni Nesbeth pushed the ball up the field to Katelyn Zipay who dribbled past her defender and took a shot that snuck past the goalie for her third goal of the season. Just four minutes later, Taylor Huff sent a free kick to the back post where Lauren Flynn was there for the header to score her first career hat trick after scoring just three career goals prior to Thursday night. Flynn is the first FSU player to record a hat trick since teammate Onyi Echegini on Sept. 16, 2022, against Boston College. Flynn's hat trick was the 21st in school history. FSU was unstoppable for the first 10 minutes of the second. FSU's first three goals in the second half came in just over a five-minute span.

Olivia Garcia added one more goal for the Seminoles as Nguyen found her at the back post for the easy header. This was Garcia's second goal of the season. FSU ends the season with 36 goals in ACC play which is the second-most in ACC history and was just one shy of North Carolina's 37 goals in 2007.

Noles Advance to ACC Championship Game with 2-0 Win Over No. 11 Pitt.

CARY, N.C. - It was another terrific second half performance for the No. 1 Florida State women's soccer team (15-0-1) as they scored two goals in the final 20 minutes to defeat No. 11 Pitt (14-5-1) 2-0 to advance to the ACC Championship. FSU will look for their fourth consecutive title on Sunday at noon when they take on Clemson. FSU has now outscoring their opponents 39-4 in the second half and 22-4 in the final 25 minutes of the match.

It was a dominant first half for the Seminoles as they outshot the Panthers 10-2 and held possession for 58% of the time but were unable to find the back of the net. The Noles got a couple of good looks though as Onyi Echegini hit one off of the top crossbar in the 19th minute. Jordynn Dudley also had a great look that went just wide in the 32nd minute.

The two teams were very even to begin the second half, and Pitt threatened twice in the 52nd minute and again in the 59th minute, but Cristina Roque and the Seminoles' defense prevailed to keep the Panthers off the board. FSU ended Pitt's momentum as Leilanni Nesbeth sent a great ball from just beyond the midfield to Jody Brown. Brown took a couple of dribbles and sent it into the box to Dudley who easily converted on the header to give FSU a 1-0 lead in the 70th minute. Dudley scored her 10th goal of the season to join Echegini as a double-digit scorer for the Seminoles. This is the first time since 2014 that FSU has had two double-digit scorers.

Just five minutes later, FSU created a corner kick opportunity for Taylor Huff who sent a perfect ball to the front post where Beata Olsson just got a piece of it to send it to the back of the net to give FSU a 2-0 lead. This was Olsson's fourth goal of the season and her first goal since Sept. 21 against Syracuse. Huff recorded her ACC-leading 12th assist of the season.

FSU was able to shut down the Panthers for the final 20 minutes to record their ninth shutout of the season. This was just the second time all season that Pitt had been shutout.

Seminoles Win Fourth-Straight ACC Champioonship.

CARY, N.C. - Onyi Echegini scores twice to lead first-ranked Florida State (16-0-1) to a 2-1 victory over seventh-ranked Clemson (15-3-3) for a fourth straight ACC Tournament Championship. This marks the second time in program history the Seminoles have won four straight conference tournament championships.

The two teams faced each other in the regular season to open conference play back in September with the Seminoles storming back from two goals down to win 4-2 on the road. The road to the championship for the Tigers included victories over Wake Forest and Notre Dame while the Seminoles used two second-half goals to defeat Pitt 2-0 in the semifinals.

Florida State couldn't have gotten off to a better start as the lethal attacking duo of Onyi Echegini and Jordynn Dudley created yet another goal-scoring opportunity. Dudley drove through defenders across the face of goal before laying off a pass at the top of the box to Echegini who rifled a shot with precision and pace into the top left corner for the game's opening goal inside ten minutes. This was Echegini's 12th goal of the season and her sixth goal in the past six games.

Just before the half-hour mark Clemson earned the game's first corner kick and found the equalizer as Mackenzie Duff headed the ball at the back post which bounced through the melee in the box and into the net for a 1-1 game, The Tigers were the first team to score against the Seminoles in over 300 minutes of action.

Cristina Roque was challenged towards the end of the first half and showed off her aerial ability as a long-range cross came her way in a crowded box. She emerged with a tough catch to deny the goal-scoring threat. The sides were even at one apiece after 45 minutes.

The Seminoles have proven to be one of the best second half teams in the nation as they've outscored opponents 39-4 in the second half this season. They're also one of the most opportunistic as a Clemson turnover in the back was picked up by Beata Olsson as she set up a low-steaming cross right to Echegini as she beat her defender and tucked away the goal to regain the lead. This marked her 35th career goal and sixth multi-goal game as a Seminole.

Roque came up strong once again as Samantha Meredith's near-post shot was fired quickly but equally as quick was Roque with a save off her foot to deny Clemson one of their best chances of the game with twenty minutes to go.

Clemson increased the pressure as the game was drawing towards the end but the Noles withstood the challenge and claimed sole possession of the 2023 ACC Tournament Championship. The Seminoles now have double-digit championships with their tenth as a program and have won nine of the past eleven.

Five Seminoles were named to the ACC All-Tournament Team. Echegini was named the ACC Tournament MVP and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Dudley, Olsson, Roque and Mimi Van Zanten.

Top-Seeded Seminoles Cruise to 5-0 Victory Over Morehead State.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 1 Florida State women's soccer team (17-0-0) cruised to a 5-0 victory over Ohio Valley Conference Champion Morehead State (9-6-5) on Friday evening in front of over 1,600 fans at the Seminole Soccer Complex. Dudley's Goal Lead Noles to 1-0 Victory over Texas A&M

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Jordynn Dudley scored the game-winning goal in the 55th minute, and the top-seeded Florida State women's soccer team (18-0-1) held on to a 1-0 victory over Texas A&M (10-8-4) in an intense and physical game at the Seminole Soccer Complex. FSU has now made the Round of 16 in the past seven seasons and 20 out of the past 22 seasons.

FSU controlled possession early in the match, but it was the Aggies who were able to threaten first as Mia Pante's header just went off the top of the woodwork and was eventually cleared by the Seminoles. FSU didn't record a shot until the 32nd minute and had their best look in the 39th minute when Lauren Flynn flicked a ball with her heel that just went wide of the goal. The teams went into the half locked at 0 with the Aggies holding a 4-3 shots advantage.

FSU came out of the half and got some great looks from both Taylor Huff and Onyi Echegini in the 50th minute. FSU continued to threaten and finally broke through in the 55th minute. Beata Olsson placed a perfect ball via a header to Dudley from about 30 yards out. Dudley took three touches to collect herself and beat the two defenders in front of her and struck it past the goalie for her 11th goal of the season which is tied for fourth most goals in school history by a freshman.

The Aggies were not done yet and threatened multiple times over the last 30 minutes, Cristina Roque continued to make save after save to keep the Aggies off the board. Roque had a season-high five saves which is her highest save total since the Elite 8 matchup against Arkansas last season. Roque improved to 55-2-6 in the goal over her career.

FSU outshot the Aggies 12-9 and took 10 corner kicks compared to Texas A&M's four corner kicks.

FSU Dominates Texas in 5-0 Win to Advance to NCAA Quarterfinals.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Seminoles scored three goals in the first 20 minutes and never looked back, as the top-seeded Florida State women's soccer team (19-0-1) defeated Texas (17-5-2) 5-0 at the Seminole Soccer Complex on Sunday night. This will mark the sixth consecutive season that FSU has advanced to the quarterfinals and the 17th time in the last 19 seasons. FSU's five goals were the most goals scored by any FSU team in the third round of the NCAA Tournament, and Sunday was also the largest margin of victory for FSU in the third round of the tournament.

Florida State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, with Beata Olsson's goal breaking the scoring drought in the fifth minute. A shot by Onyi Echegini was saved by Texas's Mia Justus, but the ball fell to Olsson who headed the ball into the empty net for her sixth goal of the season.

The Seminoles doubled their lead in the ninth minute Echegini corralled a great touch from Taylor Huff, and the ACC Offensive Player of the Year took the free space and found the back of the net for her team-high 14th goal of the season. This was the quickest that FSU has scored two goals to start a game this season.

Both Texas and FSU got great looks in the 12th and 13th minutes but both shots went off the post to keep the score at 2-0.

Jordynn Dudley scored Florida State's third goal in the first 20 minutes of the match after a Texas foul gave Dudley a chance from the penalty spot. Dudley converted the kick for her 12th goal of her freshman season which is tied for second in school history among freshmen. This was Florida State's first time scoring 3 goals in the first half of a game since August 21, 2022, when the Seminoles defeated Georgia by a 3-1 margin.

FSU picked up right where they left off to begin the second half as Ran Iwai sent a ball into the 18-yard box for Dudley who dished it off to Huff who fired it into the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season to increase the lead to 4-0 in the 49th minutes.

Olivia Garcia scored her second goal of the NCAA Tournament as she made a great move to beat her defender in the corner, dribbled into the box and struck a great ball with her left foot to give the Noles their fifth goal of the night.

FSU's defense was nothing short of spectacular all night as they held the Longhorns' top five offense and the top scorer in the country to no goals. Cristina Roque picked up another win for the Seminoles and now holds the school record for most career shutouts in the NCAA Tournament with 14. FSU has now shut out six out of their last seven opponents and have allowed just four goals in their last 12 games.

FSU Soccer Advances to Fourth Consecutive College Cup.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the fourth consecutive season and the 14th time in school history, the Florida State Seminoles are headed to the College Cup after a 3-0 win over Pitt in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday night in front of a sold out crowd at the Seminole Soccer Complex. FSU improved to a perfect 14-0 against the Panthers and defeated Pitt for the third time this season.

FSU got off to a hot start and had four shots in the first three minutes but were unable to convert. Both teams began to settle in and got some good looks but neither team was able to put the ball in the back of the net leaving the game tied at zero after the first 45 minutes with FSU holding a 9-5 shots advantage.

The teams combined for just four shots in the first 15 minutes of the second half, but the Seminoles finally broke through in the 63rd minute. Jordynn Dudley took a shot from just inside the 18-yard box that hit a Pitt defender and was ruled a handball giving the Seminoles a penalty kick. Taylor Huff calmly stepped up and found the back of the net to give FSU a 1-0 lead. Just over five minutes later, Leah Pais, a graduate transfer from Pitt, drew another foul inside of the box and scored her second goal of the season to give the Noles a 2-0 lead.

One minute later, Dudley broke away from the defense and had a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie, Pitt's Ellie Breach made the save, but Onyi Echegini was there for the rebound and beat two defenders to give FSU a commanding three-goal lead. Echegini scored her 15th goal of the season which is the most goals scored in a single season by a Seminole since Deyna Castellanos in 2017. FSU scored all three of their goals in six minutes and five seconds of game time.

Pitt recorded just one shot on goal in the final 20 minutes of play, and the FSU defense put together another terrific performance recording their seventh shutout in the last eight games. FSU has not allowed a goal through four games in the NCAA Tournament and is the first team since Duke and South Carolina in 2017 to hold their first four opponents of the NCAA Tournament scoreless.

Seminoles Advance to the National Championship with 2-0 Win Over Clemson.

By Jack Oliaro

CARY, N.C. - Kaitlyn Zipay and Jordynn Dudley led top-ranked Florida State (21-0-1) to a 2-0 victory over seventh-ranked Clemson (18-4-4) to punch their ticket to the 2023 Women's College Cup National Championship. The Seminoles have now reached the final in three of the last four seasons and are the first team since 2015 to reach the championship without conceding a goal in the tournament.

The two teams faced off for the third time this season with Florida State winning the first match in Clemson 4-2 before meeting again in the ACC Championship where Onyi Ecehgini scored a brace to lead the Seminoles to their fourth straight conference title. The Tigers defeated Radford, Columbia, Georgia, and fifth-ranked Penn State to march to their first College Cup while Florida State defeated Morehead State, Texas A&M, Texas, and No. 11 Pitt to make their 14th appearance in the College Cup.

Florida State got off to a decent start as they created some quality chances. Taylor Huff had the best opportunity inside the opening five minutes as she drove through the heart of the Clemson defense and sprinted right up to the keeper before taking a shot that was saved and up for grabs in a scramble before the Tigers defense cleared away the chance.

The run of play began to shift Clemson's way as they grew into the game and began to threaten for the game's opening goal and forced Cristina Roque into four first-half saves, tied for the most saves in a half for her all season. The newly-named All-American showed off her lateral quickness when Dani Davis fired off a shot that forced Roque to dive left and make another clutch stop. Clemson outshot the Seminoles in the first half 8-4 but the score remained locked at zeroes at the half-hour mark.

Taylor Huff was set to take a corner and her cross came flying in at the near post and was cleared away but a vertical kick by Heather Gilchrist saw the ball drift over the Clemson backline and into Zipay's path. She waited patiently for the bounce and on the half-volley she crushed the ball with a fiery pace towards the near post and scored the game's first goal. The substitute made her impact on the biggest stage and Zipay chose the right time to score her first goal of the postseason and just her fourth goal of the season. The Seminoles led by one goal at the break.

FSU built upon the lead early in the second half when ACC Freshman of the Year Jordynn Dudley sprinted down the touchline draped with Tiger defenders but withstood the pressure. She drove into the box and uncorked a shot into the upper right corner for another unbelievable goal to push the lead to two. Dudley scored her 13th goal of the season, third goal of the tournament and 34th point of the season to equalize with Echegini as the team's leading point-scorers.

The Seminoles dominated the run of play throughout the remainder of the game as Clemson was only able to muster one shot on goal in the remainder of the game while FSU fired five more shots. The final whistle rang and Florida State defeated Clemson for a third and final time to reach the National Championship for the first time since 2021 and their seventh trip to the final game. They also haven't given up a goal throughout the tournament run and are the first team to accomplish the feat since Penn State in 2015.

National Champions: Soccer Wins Fourth National Title in Dominant Win Over Stanford.

By Stephen Stone

CARY, N.C. - A tremendous two-goal stretch in a 26-second span in the first half propelled top-ranked Florida State Soccer to a 5-1 win over No. 2 Stanford in front of a packed crowd at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. on Monday night in the College Cup National Championship.

The Seminoles have now won all four of their NCAA Soccer titles since 2014 - winning in 2014, 2018, 2021 and 2023 - four championships in a 10-year run. Their five goals are the most they've scored in a College Cup match, and it was the most scored by any team in the National Championship since 2012.

Forward Jody Brown was one of the stars of the game for FSU, picking up two goals. Beata Olsson came up big with one goal and two assists, while Jordynn Dudley added a goal and one assist. Onyi Echegini came through in the end with a goal to cement another title.

The scoring madness began when superstar freshman forward Dudley received a great ball in the box, baited her defender and drew a foul. The penalty kick resulted in Dudley going top shelf to give the Seminoles a 1-0 lead at the 28:27 mark in the first half, her 14th goal of the year.

The momentum quickly built less than 30 seconds later when Brown snuck past the vaunted Stanford defense down the left side, received a beautiful lead pass from Taylor Huff and used her second touch with her left foot to get one past Stanford goalkeeper Ryan Campbell for the second goal of the match.

Stanford made the game interesting when it scored in the 52nd minute and early in the second half to cut the FSU lead to 2-1.

Olsson gave the Seminoles a crucial goal in the 58th minute when she broke free and delivered a strike from the left side, making it 3-1. She was able to beat her oncoming defender on a one touch to give her the space to get her shot off. Olsson then delivered just a few minutes later when she gave Brown a one touch to the right side on an elusive attack, and Brown put it through for her second goal of the game.

Echegini followed with a goal of her own in the 84th minute to give FSU a 5-1 lead, her team-leading 16th of the season.

The Seminoles finished the game with 16 shots to Stanford's five, including an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The championship win caps Florida State's first undefeated season in program history, in what is perhaps the best version of the soccer program ever. Monday's big-time matchup pitted the nation's top scoring offense in FSU (3.18 goals per game) against Stanford's top defensive unit that allowed just 0.42 goals per game.

The title completes a remarkable run for the Seminoles not just in the regular season, but in the NCAA Tournament where they out-scored their opponents 21-1.

Florida State Athletics secures its 19th national title, with soccer's fourth being the most of any FSU program.
