From the Tallahassee Democrat, October 9, 1969, page 19.

Scott Fletcher, a Tallahassee pro for several years, has been named coach of the Florida State golf team.

The new Castle, Ind., native replaces Dr. Don Veller who recently assumed the directorship of the Southern Scholarship Foundation at the university.

"We feel very fortunate to be able to have someone with Scott Fletcher's background to take over," said FSU Athletic Director Mancha. "He has a fine reputation as a club pro in Tallahassee, especially working with young golfers."

Fletcher was assistant pro at Tallahassee's Capitol City Country Club for five years and served at the Florida State course for the past year.

Married and the father of three he expects his new position to be a big challenge but is anxious to tackle it.

"This is a big change from a club pro. It's a tremendous opportunity for me," said Fletcher.

His first season should be made easier by the fact that he inherits a veteran club that finished 12th in the nation last year. Veterans BobHuber, Jim Keedy, John Calabria, Dick Stephens and Mike Cheek return.

A pair of top-flight newcomers, sophomore Mark Alwin and National Junior College Champion Jim Barber are challenging for a top spot.

"I look for a good team," said Fletcher. "I inherited most of it, but it should be competing for top national honors."
