Ken Suarez was a major impact player for the Seminoles in the 1960's. He proved his playing ability on the field in Tallahassee along with the basin league where he was named the league's most popular
player. Ken's junior year in 1964, he led the Seminoles in runs, hits, home runs, total bases, bases on balls and runs batted in. He had 44 hits, six home runs, totaled 67 bases and drove in 30 runs
on his way to earning first-team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association. One of Ken's most memorable moments was getting a hit in the 1963 College World Series. Suarez was named to the 1964 United States Olympic Baseball Team that competed in Japan and Korea, making Suarez the first Seminole baseball player to ever participate in the Olympics. After three seasons with the 'Noles, the 5-8 catcher decided to sign with the Kansas City Athletics. Ken enjoyed nine years of professional baseball, including three years with Kansas City, four years with the Cleveland Indians and two seasons with the Texas Rangers. |
