Verlyn Giles was the Florida State women's golf coach from 1978 to 1990 and the men's golf coach from 1983 to 1991...his early women's golf teams in particular did well. He coached four All-Americans - including 1st Teamer Nadia Ste-Marie and led his teams to the national tournament five times (1978, 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982), winning the AIAW tournament in 1981...five men earned All-American honors including 1st-Teamer Nolan Henke...the men appeared in the NCAA tournament four times (1983, 1987, 1989 and 1990) earning top 10 finishes in 1987 and 1990...Giles was also an assistant track coach at Florida State and in 1962 he became the head coach of the newly formed cross country team.
