Herbert James Seckel was born on August 3, 1928 in Akron, Ohio. He moved to Tallahassee, FL in 1948. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. Herb served as Seaman Apprentice in the United States Navy. He retired after 27 years of employment from the city of Tallahassee. He is the son of Rollie Jay Seckel and Violet Victoria Smith. His wife was Grace McCoy (deceased). Herb had three sons; James Martin Seckel, David Thomas Seckel (both deceased), and leaving behind Jack Arthur Seckel wife Millie. Herb also leaves behind three grandchildren, Stephen Jackson Seckel (Saleah), Kaylin Elizabeth Seckel, and Jordyn Adia Seckel; one sister, Rita Seckel Hornberger (Richard); and a host of nieces and nephews.
