Jonah Lee "Pete" Overton Obituary Published on findagrave.com Birth,
22 Dec 1930, Epsom, Vance County, North Carolina, USA Pete was a talented athlete playing football, basketball and baseball. President of his student body, he graduated from Henderson High School in 1950. After high school, he went to Campbell College on both academic and football scholarships. In the fall of 1950, the entire football team quit college to join the service. While in the Army Airborne 508 Infantry, Pete also played on the Ft. Benning football team. After the service, Pete attended Florida State University on the GI bill, also playing football all four years. Moving to Charlotte soon after graduating, he met and married the love of his life, Claudia Cotten. Together, they had 3 children, raising them in both Charlotte and Atlanta, GA. As VP of real estate for Southland Corporation (7 Eleven), Pete traveled extensively throughout the southeast, making friends wherever he went. Upon returning home to Charlotte, Pete and Claudia were active members of Raintree Country Club, playing golf regularly and attending and hosting parties throughout the neighborhood. Lovers of the game of bridge, Pete and Claudia played with their friends at every opportunity. Later in life came 6 wonderful grandchildren, followed by 5 great-grandchildren, all the apple of his eye. Pete was so proud of all of his family. Pete was known for his sweet spirit, honesty, punctuality and love of gardening and golf. Pete was predeceased by his
wife of 47 years, Claudia Carmela Cotten Overton in 2007. |

N.C., passed away peacefully at home on January 21, 2023. Pete was born one
of ten children on December 22, 1930 in Epsom, NC, to Theodore Roosevelt
"Jack" Overton and Annie Washington Johnson - Hester Overton.
